Fire Burns Knoxville Recycling Plant

A massive trash fire is burning in North Knoxville this afternoon. Just after one o’clock the Knoxville Fire Department responded to Fort Loudon Waste and Recycling at 2742 Hancock Street. Fire captain DJ Corcoran says they aren’t worried about any hazardous materials burning as the owner of the business says the material is mostly paper products or plastics.¬†¬†Corcoran says the wind is blowing most of the smoke away so there’s no need for evacuations at the moment. All 25 of the businesses employees are accounted for.¬† A fork lift that backfired is believed to be the cause of the fire.
