After a car chase resulted in an officer’s brief hospitalization, a suspect has been caught and detained on charges including two counts of aggravated assault, one count of evading arrest and one count of driving with a suspended license. An officer attempted to stop Robert Gaylord Hoover for a faulty tag light Tuesday night. Hoover stopped his van for a moment and then took off, leading officers onto parts of I-40, I-275, Henley Street and Chapman Highway. The chase, reaching upwards of 80 miles per hour at times, ended when Hoover crashed on Dick Ford Road as he drove into a field. Hoover attempted to exit the car and keep running. He also rammed two police cruisers during the pursuit. One officer and Hoover were taken to UT Medical Center as a precaution. Both have been released from the hospital, and Hoover has been detained.
