Ohio Man Drowns on Norris Lake

The TWRA says an Ohio man died on Norris Lake this weekend after he fell from a pontoon boat.

Investigators say on Friday the pontoon and a bass boat were in a minor accident in a no wake zone at Shanghai Marina. Both boats headed to the fuel dock.

Officials say 52-year-old Richard Curry was trying to step between the boat and the dock when he fell into the water. Witnesses say he was wearing a life jacket on the boat, but took it off before trying to get on the dock.

Divers found his body Saturday night.

TWRA officials say a properly worn lifejacket is without a doubt the best safety practice for boaters or anyone around the water. If someone who is wearing a lifejacket falls into the water and loses consciousness, it is much more likely that they will survive than someone who is not wearing one.
