Prolonged Shutdown for Chemical Spill on I-75 in Campbell Co

Hazmat crews are in Campbell County after a jack-knifed tractor trailer spilled copper sulfate on I-75.

The crash was reported just after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning on I-75 southbound just before Caryville. The truck was split in half and 4,500 gallons of the toxic chemical spilled out.

One lane is blocked at mile marker 138. Crews will continue to assess the situation and plan to have a better gauge on an estimated time for that second lane to reopen by late Thursday.

Officials expect the roadway to be back to normal by Friday morning at the earliest.
